Casa Pisco

«Casa Pisco is where I can gather with the people I cherish, sharing moments and creating memories. I’ve always had a passion for sharing, and what better place to do it than in my own home, over a refreshing pisco sour?”»

Valencia, noon.

The warm summer light streams in from the terrace while Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours plays in the background. An ice bucket, gildas, and a few Pisco Sours are on the tile-coloured outdoor table. We are in Casa Pisco, a renovated house from the 70s, which aims to be an oasis in the middle of the city where you can disconnect and get together with family and friends.

Casa Pisco is more than my home. It is my space for work and inspiration. It is where I create what happens in Viraje and, above all, imagine what will come.

Casa Pisco consists of 132m2, plus two terraces.

It was a flat that had been closed for 35 years, very dark, totally sectored, with paper on the walls and a way of living the house that was opposite to the one sought with the new renovation: “It seemed interesting and at the same time fun to me the challenge of proposing a radical change in a flat that had been lived in a very different way, with four bedrooms, almost all interior, the living room oriented unusually and the terrace being a mere anecdote”.

The renovation is conceived as a 180-degree turn

but maintains the structure visible throughout the house. The beams and pillars mark the rhythm within a wholly open-plan space, where no element touches the structure.

The bedrooms are reduced from four to two.

A main bedroom with an en-suite bathroom and a guest bedroom both facing the main avenue. A central cube of natural Iroko wood appears that meets all the needs required by the dwelling while articulating and connecting the bedrooms with the day area of the living room and kitchen. This element, which acts as a distributor and appears to be a wood panelling with shelving areas at first glance, contains “concealed” doors without handles that house three spaces. The two bathrooms -one in microcement and the other in terracotta- and the laundry and storage area.

The central iroko wood cube is resolved free from the other elements.

It is separated from the ceiling plane to allow the hanging tracks to pass above it. Above the cube, glass and stainless steel elements facilitate meetings and the passage of installations. In this way, the ceiling and the structure are continuously visible throughout the living space, reinforcing the sensation of spatiality.

The day area is open and focused on the views of the main terrace.

The kitchen appears, with the central cube’s storage part at the end and a large stainless steel island in the centre. In front, the living room with the main table in wood – the studio’s design – Rey chairs by Hay and ceiling lamp by Astep (model 2065) harmoniously preside over the space and act as a connecting thread between the kitchen and the living room. To the left, an entertainment area with a record player and vinyl records overlooks the interior terrace, decorated with many tropical plants.

The path culminates in the office – also in natural Iroko wood and with a “Showtime” armchair by Jaime Hayon – and the main terrace, conceived as an extension of the day area.

“In Valencia, we are lucky enough to enjoy good weather all year round; I couldn’t waste that,” concludes Raúl, ending our tour for Casa Pisco.
