«The house, a testament to the Japanese architectural trends of the 1950s, is one of the most intriguing structures in the area. Its rebirth celebrates its architectural marvels, each more unique than the last.»
La Caseta del Notari is a project of 1950s house rehabilitation towards a more modern conception.
The aim is to avoid the dark tones of the interior of the building
and to bring light and warmth into all the house’s rooms. However, it is worked so that the unique wooden roof remains intact and becomes more prominent.
The intervention on this house
fulfils the mission of dispensing with visually heavy fixed elements and redirecting the view to the sloping wooden roof. The continuous light flooring gives the house much more light and highlights, even more, if possible, its peculiar roof.
To achieve this ambitious aim, the living room has been modified, replacing part of the wooden panels with white cladding and the brown tiled floor with a continuous light-coloured microcement. In this way, it is impossible not to focus the eye on the sloping wooden roof.
We continue with the kitchen’s change of materiality and distribution, using light tones and lighter materials and connecting it physically and visually with the living room.
On the other hand, all the glass in the house has been renewed,
both in the windows and the upper parts of the partitions. In the day area, the two curved wooden volumes, which hide the kitchen and the study area, do not touch the roof. For this purpose, transparent glass was used to replace the existing brown glass to separate the areas acoustically and allow light to enter from outside.
The distribution of the master bedroom has also transformed,
creating two dressing rooms and two bathrooms, one on each side of the bedroom, thus generating a more diaphanous space. It is worth noting that all the furniture in the house has been selected in light and neutral tones to achieve the long-awaited contribution of light and warmth throughout the space.
